ENGLISH - To describe a setting
Today, Year 5 have started a writing unit based on the book The Tin Forest by Helen Ward.
They started by looking at a small section of the front cover to identify what they can see, what questions it leaves them with and predicting what they think the book is about. There was some really impressive questions coming from them!
We then focused on the first picture and created a word bank around the colour grey - this was to help us create the atmosphere. Then we looked at the weather and discussed similes and metaphors that we could use when describing weather as well as personification. Putting all these elements together, the children went off to write a descriptive paragraph of the opening picture to this book.
Some great work Year 5 - well done! Here are just a couple of examples of their work.
