ENGLISH - To write a character description

 Today, Year 5 had an opportunity to write a character description of the old man in The Tin Forest. We don’t know much about him yet, but we’ve tried to work out how he might be feeling and how he does things just by four different pictures of him. We have also looked at his appearance, his clothes and tried to guess more details about him. 

Our biggest challenge was using a range of different sentence starts with the help of DADWAVERS (description, action, dialogue, where, adverbs, verbs, estimation of time, rhetorical questions and similes).  

We then had a few minutes at the end to edit and make sure we have a range of openers, punctuation and vocabulary.

 Adam from the Isle of Wight library service came in to introduce the summer reading scheme to the children. The children will need to sign up for the scheme:gadgeteers. There are stickers, games and a gift each time you visit. Each child must read 6 books over the summer.  Once the children have visited three times they will be given a certificate and a medal. All the library asks is that the children write a review of one of the books they have read by 17th September.
