Investigation - How to measure the height of a tree.

What a great investigation. Every child actively took part in the challenge today.

First, Mrs Gregory read them a discussion between two children about how they could find the height of a tree. Subsequently, the children began debating how they could measure the tree in the playground. The children were then put into groups, where they estimated the height of the tree.  From there, they discussed different ways to measure the height such as: using the shadow of the tree, measuring your thumb like a painter as well as using their own height. Once they were ready the children armed themselves with a clipboard and their chosen method of measuring and off they went.

It was lovely to hear the different conversations and to see the different methods being used to measure the height. At the end of the lesson, different groups presented their methods to the class. Amazing lesson. Thank you, year 5. 😊
