Geography - Fair Trade

Today was a great lesson learning about Fair Trade and how other countries have benefited. 

As Mrs Gregory loves chocolate, the lesson was all about cocoa producers!

Did you know that 90% of all cocoa is grown by 6 million farmers on small family farms? 

Growing cocoa is hard work. Here, they children watched a video of cocoa growers in Ghana.



Fairtade is a global organisation that helps farmers in countries such as Ghana. Its members have all benefited as they are given a fair price for their products. Do you recognise the logo?



Then they children compared how farmers were treated before and after they had become part of Fair Trade.

Isle of Wight Library Service

 Adam from the Isle of Wight library service came in to introduce the summer reading scheme to the children. The children will need to sign up for the scheme:gadgeteers. There are stickers, games and a gift each time you visit. Each child must read 6 books over the summer.  Once the children have visited three times they will be given a certificate and a medal. All the library asks is that the children write a review of one of the books they have read by 17th September.
